Lighting the water heater.
Before operating this water heater, be sure to read and follow the instructions on the label pictured
below and all other labels on the water heater, as well as the warnings printed in this manual. Failure to
do so can result in unsafe operation of the water heater resulting in property damage, personal injury,
or death. Should you have any problems reading or following the instructions in this manual, STOP,
and get help from a qualified person.

TO TURN GAS OFF TO THE APPLIANCE
WARNING:
If you do not follow these instructions and the Use & Care
Manual instructions exactly, a re or explosion may result causing property
damage, personal injury or loss of life.
If you cannot reach your gas supplier,
call the re department.
Use only your hand to turn the gas control
knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not
turn by hand, don’t try to repair it, call a
qualied service technician. Force or
attempted repair may result in a re or
explosion.
Do not use this appliance if any part has
been under water. Immediately call a
qualied installer or service agency to
replace a ooded water heater. Do not
attempt to repair the unit! It must be
replaced!

This appliance has a pilot which is lit by a
piezo-electric spark gas ignition system.
BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the
appliance area for gas. Be sure to smell
next to the oor because some gas is
heavier than air and will settle on the oor.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:
Do not try to light any appliance.
Do not touch any electric switch; do not
use any phone in your building.
Immediately call your gas supplier from
a neighbors phone. Follow the gas
suppliers instructions.
Do NOT open the inner door of this
appliance and try to light the pilot by
hand!
STOP! Read safety information above on this label.
Rotate the combination gas control/thermostat knob counter-clockwise to the “OFF”
position.
Wait ve (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, STOP! Follow “B” in the safety
information above on this label. If you don’t smell gas, go to the next step.
Remove the outer door from the water heater. Do not attempt to remove the inner door
assembly. Locate the piezo-electric spark generator button which is just below the combina-
tion gas control/thermostat knob.
Rotate the combination gas control/thermostat knob clockwise to the “PILOT position.
Depress and hold the combination gas control/thermostat knob all the way in while immedi-
ately depressing the piezo-electric spark generator button several times until the “STATUS”
indicator light begins to blink. Once the “STATUS” indicator light begins to blink, verify the
pilot is lit by viewing the pilot ame through the sight glass window located on the inner
door.
• If the “STATUS” indicator light does not start blinking after 90 seconds and the pilot is not
lit, repeat steps 2 through 6.
• If the pilot will not stay lit after several lighting sequence attempts, turn the combination
gas control/thermostat knob counter-clockwise to the “OFF” position and call your service
technician or gas supplier.
Replace the outer door.
Release the combination gas control/thermostat knob. The knob should
pop back out.
• If the combination gas control/thermostat knob does not pop back
out when released, stop and immediately call your service technician or
gas supplier.
Set the combination gas control/thermostat knob to the desired setting.

Rotate the combination gas control/thermostat knob counter-clockwise to the “OFF”
position. Note: The “STATUS” indicator light will briey stay lit, then go o after a short
period of time.
